The Puerto Rico Convention Center District Authority is committed to lead the development of the diverse multiple use projects that comprise the Convention Center District. These projects aim to create a new neighborhood of diverse uses that provides residential units, commercial space, offices and tourist facilities that complement and support the Convention Center’s operations in order to promote Puerto Rico’s appeal as a tourist hub, and to foster its economic development.
The District’s development is carried out through the government’s united efforts with the private sector. The public sector set the development parameters, carried out the planning of this part of the city, obtained the necessary permits, and provided the basic infrastructure for each project. Each plot of land is ready to be rented or sold to the private sector, which in turn will carry out the investment and development of particular projects.
The Puerto Rico Convention Center District is in a 113 acre area located in the heart of San Juan. It represents the transformation of the former site of the Miramar Naval and Coast Guard Base into a new community with residential areas, offices, commercial space, entertainment venues, civic and cultural activities facilities.
The Puerto Rico Convention Center District represents a total public and private investment of more than $1,300 Million. The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico has already invested more than $400 million in the development of the Convention Center, public spaces, accesses and infrastructure to create multiple use projects that will be developed by the private sector. The private investment will be approximately $900 million.
Also, the District is the home to the new park and fountains of the Convention District, which has some 13 acres of greenery, walkways and fountains that connect the new Convention Center to the San Juan Bay and the Miramar, Condado and Puerta de Tierra communities.
